Blue Lake Park, is located in the greater Portland Metropolitan Area, and sits between I-84 and the Columbia River. This 101 acre park has plenty of things for visitors to enjoy such as basketball, archery, volleyball, softball, horseshoes, hiking, biking and playgrounds. It is complete with a 61 acre lake that allows fishing. Small boats and canoes under 17 feet are allowed. The water is well stocked with trout and children under the age of 13 can fish without a license. Paddle boats and row boats are available onsite for rent.
Covered and uncovered picnic areas are available throughout the park that can be reserved for 25 or more people. The fees are based on the location of the area, and the number of people the area holds. Prices start from $25 mid week and go up to $215 for weekend reservations. There are random picnic tables all over the park that are free but are on a first come first serve basis, and fill up quickly on a busy day.
The park is open dusk to dawn, but the water fountains play area hours are limited to, 11a.m. - 7p.m. on days when it is over 70 degrees. Ice cream, snow-cones, and drinks are sold at a concession stand on Saturday and Sundays. Vending machines are available otherwise. Statues, add interest to this beautiful setting. There are restrooms available and they are generally clean.
Children under the age of 5 are not allowed in the lake, but there is no serious monitoring of this rule. But, parents should always remember to monitor their children while in the water. There is a splash area filled with colorful fountains, and buckets that dump’s water on you, fun stuff.
The major problem with this park can be the Mosquitoes, if you do not bring bug spray for this particular outing, you may be eaten alive. So, don’t forget, to bring the bug spray, and be sure to reapply it often!!
Alcohol is allowed in the park, in designated areas with a permit. Pets are not allowed, in this park. However, dog droppings are usually around the area. This is a very nice park and can fill your day with plenty of activities. It is well worth the $5 for the parking fee, so be sure to add it to you to do list.
