Karen Blair Photographer - Photographic Light Graffiti

This month we are very excited to announce that our Featured Artist is Karen Blair. This is the second time that NewAgeVeus.Com has decided to feature the cutting edge works of this artist. Karen is a freelance photographer, a teacher and devoted single mother of two amazing adult children. Her works have also been featured on the cover of Great Basin College Literary Magazine "Argentum". Her photos have also been featured in Elko Daily Free Press.

Ms. Blair began her photography career just six short years ago. Her skills in the photography arena are unending and include: portraits, light graffiti, darkroom, candids, night photography, Cyanotype photos (cyanotype is an alternate process of developing which results in a beautiful blue print) photographing fires, and more.

Currently, Ms. Blair has a Light Graffiti class she teaches at the NorthEastern Nevada Museum. The class is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Light graffiti in its simplest terms is images captured with man made lights in dark scenes. Karen teaches private lessons as well as provides professional photography services for parties and events. Mrs. Blair can and will travel to make sure that her clients get the best picture in their ideal setting.

Karen is an upbeat and our going person, who loves photography because she can express herself without saying a word. Karen is a true New Age Venus, as she began her career after she was well into her thirties. Karen is now a proud 40 and enjoys life now more then ever.

We had a chance to do a question and answer session with this artist and here is what we learned.

What are your hobbies besides photography?

"I love to ride my pink Electra Beach Cruiser Bicycle, yoga, and recycling (which is silly I know, but i enjoy it). My favorite summer time activities are by far camping and swimming."

What is your favorite part about photography?

"Meeting new people, and visualizing what the best photographic shot of them will be."

What is your least favorite part of photography?

"My least favorite part is editing weddings. I love shooting the ceremony and reception; but, the editing for a large wedding is very tedious!"

What was the hardest part about completely changing careers as a mature adult?

"I've been changing careers for years. I'm finally doing what I've always loved to do. What I feel I was meant to do, and, I get paid to do it now. All the other jobs I've had we're just to tide me over."

What is your greatest accomplishment?

Ms. Blair laughs and states, "Keeping my kids out of prison and alive long enough to see adulthood? Besides that i just don't know."

For those of us that are still unclear on the process involved in creating Light Graffiti, could you explain it a little further?

"Light graffiti is a type of long exposure photography. Light is manipulated in a dark scene by the artist. Exposures are usually made at night or in a dark room by moving a hand held light source (flashlight, laser pointer, LED lights, etc) or by moving the camera. Some acrobatic work is required! But, it creates intense images."

To complete the interview Ms. Karen Blair states, "I hope that my photos bring the situation and scene to life for you."

So, we ask, are you ready to discover the amazing world of low light photography? Are you ready for the breath taking slide show of works by MS. Blair?
