Natural selection is a term that was coined over a century ago, and somehow seems to have lost its true meaning. Let’s start by defining natural selection. Natural selection is, “Survival of the fittest, in struggle for life.” It forces the question, are we able to adapt in order to survive? What exactly does that mean? In the wild, this means that the weak die off or are killed, in order for the strong to survive.
In the wild, there are numerous examples of this; in pack animals, the weak, elderly and injured are slower, hence they travel at the back of the group. If attacked from the rear, they are the first ones killed off, but this allows the “strong” and young “future” to escape from attack. Animals have to kill and eat weaker species in order to survive, in fact in the wild there are nearly 140 species that show cannibalistic tendencies and will eat their own species. So, in a radical and what some may consider a rude summary, this means the stupidest of each species will manage to kill themselves off.
Humans seem to be the only species that try and prevent this natural selection process. Have we gone to extremes to prevent the stupid of our species from killing themselves off? Think of this, centuries ago there was no caution sign on the edge of cliffs to prevent people from falling off. If you were dumb enough to go too close to the edge, you fell off and died. If you were ignorant enough to eat poisonous berries, you died. Now, I am not suggesting that we shouldn’t protect our young, we should ALWAYS watch over and protect our children, as most species do. But, they are not old enough or wise enough to understand warnings, so they must be for the adults. If they are for the adults, I am just suggesting that we have gone just a bit too far, and may be preventing common sense in our species.
For example: There are warning on your shampoo bottles telling you not to ingest or eat the liquid. Who exactly were the idiots that ate enough shampoo that it would require them to put a warning on each and every bottle? Who was the moron that decided to blow dry their hair while in the bath tub, hence requiring a warning label, that blow dryers should not be used in water? My batteries have a warning on them that states, “If swallowed promptly see a doctor.” Now, I am again left wondering, who exactly was the fool that swallowed some? If it was a child, they would not have been old enough to read a warning and should have been supervised. So, no warning should be necessary. If there was an adult that was stupid enough to swallow a battery; then isn’t it just possible that they are so stupid, that they should be dead?
As far as the common sense aspect of this, here is what I mean: My hairspray says, “Do not spray in eyes.” Well, let me tell you this, one time of spraying hairspray in their eyes, and the average person will understand that they should not spray it into their eyes. My curling iron states, “Warning: may cause burns. For external use only.” Again, I am quite sure that anyone who is fit enough to survive, gets that it’s an iron, which means it is hot, and if they didn’t know this they would understand after the first touch. As for external use only, are they kidding me? In prehistoric times, they figured out by pure common sense, not to sit under the coconut tree.
Our extreme protection of the weak and stupid has contributed to overpopulation. Also, I am forced to wonder, because the stupidest of our species are not dying off, are we risking future generations will be substantially less intelligent.
