For those of you not familiar with Skate World, it is a skating center located in Hillsboro, Oregon. We have been to Skate World on more than a few occasions. The kids usually have a good time skating and it is the only roller skate rink on the west side of the river. My 11 year old decided she wanted to celebrating her birthday there. I called in advance to try to schedule one of their party rooms. Unfortunately, the only room that was available could only hold 10 people; which was not enough room for us. So, per the attendants advice and information, we decided to have the party in the general area.
Well, unknown to us, as we were never advised during my lengthly scheduling conversation, that we could only bring in outside food if we had booked a room. We found this food rule out when we brought cupcakes in for the party. However the staff at Skate World did not advise us of this as we entered. They waited to tell us this outside food rule as kids were eating them. We were told to put them in the car, (it was 78 degrees outside). The cupcakes would have spoiled quickly in the car.
I proceeded to explain that I tried to book a room but there were none available, but we had been told that we could have a party in the general area. The very young and unprofessional attendant said, "Why don’t I ask the other people who paid the $99, if it was fair that I got to have cupcakes without paying the room/party fee which includes 10 kids skates, hotdogs, soda and ice cream." As an FYI, we had already spent $125. I said, "I did not think they cared or knew if I had paid the party fee or not." She then proclaimed that they had plenty of rooms available and so someone must have lied to me, when I called in.
So, I was going to have to take the cupcakes from the children and felt I would have to throw them in the garbage, rather than taking them to the car to melt. This just was not making sense to me. Then the snotty little attendant told she felt I was ruining my child's party.
I went back to my table took a calming breath and gathered $100 cash from my purse and asked if I could have one of the party rooms that were available supposedly available. I was then told they had NONE, by the same woman, that just told me they had plenty, What?? I had just talked to her no more than 5 minutes ago….. I seriously had to take the cupcakes from childrens mouths and throw the away per this rude Skate World Employee.
Needless to say, I requested the managers phone number and more was given attitude….This is the worst customer service I have ever received at a supposedly kid friendly establishment. I can honestly say the Skate World Employees i dealt with that day lacked customer service skills and general courtesy. I will again take my children to Skate World again! I will drive across town, or to Vancouver, rather then ever step foot in that dump again. When the service was good I could over look the décor, the lack of cleanliness, the funky feet smell, the half debilitated and ancient skates, and the teens behind the counter, but now their professionalism and customer service is gone too. So, Skate World of Hillsboro, is a definite thumbs down in our opinion!
