STRIPSTEAK at Mandalay Bay - Las Vegas Nevada

    By, Roxanne Ducusin

[Chef Michael Mina] STRIPSTEAK at Mandalay Bay, his first steakhouse.

Their website boasts “With its classic menu, inviting bar scene and sophisticated atmosphere, STRIPSTEAK plays host to guests looking for the perfect filet in a modern alternative to the traditional steakhouse setting.” This is all true; but, when I go out to dinner, I am looking for more than the menu and décor. Service is critically important, in my opinion, especially when the average price per person is $110.

We sat down to a nice atmosphere, and gorgeous décor, all wood and hard lines as well as seats. Nothing was soft about this restaurant, except the low lights. We were greeted by a friendly server, and she asked if we had any questions about our menu, all the normal stuff. We perused our menu and decided on the Prefix menu, and then we waited, and waited for her to come back so we could order.

Once we ordered, we waited again and then had to ask for our server after 15-20 minutes of waiting, for the drinks we ordered. Table runners served us; we ate our entire dinner and never once saw our server. Our whole meal we sat waiting for someone to come and see how we were; so, we could order more drinks, and no one ever came.

Another unfamiliar face, took our plates and we sat for another 15-20 minutes waiting.  I finally got up and ask for our server. I happened to talk to the Manager who was standing at the register. He was apologetic, but only offered excuses. This is a huge “NO” for me where customer service is concerned; there was a huge lack of service. So, this customer, was not happy.

This maybe why, on their web site they go on and on about the Chef but mention nothing about the service. The chef can work magic, but when the food and atmosphere are tainted by lousy service, I will have to say thumbs down on this one. I would have rather spent my money somewhere I am expected to get up to order my next course or another drink, like a burger joint.

“Voted Best Steak in America by Esquire Magazine” Really? Not for this group of travelers, I will never send one of my clients to this one, Oh and P.S. the food was not worth the hype or the wait. Sorry! The days of Vegas having good food for low prices is long gone, and that would be fine if the service was there to compensate.
