With my girls gone for the day, my Lil man wanted to go the “Beach.”  So, I picked Wintler Beach Community Park. It is located off of SR-14, on the Columbia River, 6400 Beach Drive, Vancouver, Washington 98664. We packed up our sunscreen, life jacket and sand toys. Ok, I managed to pick the day/time the I-5 Bridge was up, to let the boats up the Columbia. Boy was that a big mistake, this delayed our fun for an hour. It also created lots of “How long until we get there Mommy’s”? I guess I should have checked this before we left, but I honestly had no idea where to look for that information.

We finally got there and paid the $3 Cash Only parking fee. After well over an hour in the car, and a large diet Coke, the first thing we need to do is go to the bathroom, which they have. Then the pressing question, were the bathrooms clean.  Drum roll please, Yeah they were clean. First parental test passed in this park.

We started on the lengthy hike, on the hot sand, with all of our stuff in tow. If you have a large stash in tow, you might need a wagon. Also, you will need shoes for this walk. When we made it to the beach, we set up our towels. I got my six year old safely secured in his life jacket. Wintler Beach is long and wide and has some shady spots available under trees for those wanting a little less sun. The water was cool and refreshing. The sun was hot, but we lucked out and there was a nice breeze. This beach is full of sights and fun things to talk about: a fisherman down the way, colorful sail boats, jet skiers, a boat that docked right in the middle of the shore. As well as, planes taking off from the Portland airport were visible from this location. We swam in the clean water and enjoyed ourselves for hours. My son played in the sand and I actually got a little sun.

Wintler Beach was a great day. It was very inexpensive, and lots of fun. Our stories impressed the girls, who had missed out on this grade “A” beach adventure, and even made them jealous. So much so in fact, we have planned another trip next week. This time I think I will make it a picnic and make use of the tables they have available.
